Democracy: The Power of the Principle There has always been opposition to the advance of democracy throughout the world. All through the last several hundred years there has been no lack of opponents. Different anti-democratic theories, different principles of organization, different creeds etc. Democratists have had to contend with royalists, with autocrats, with segregationists, with terrorists, with fascists and communists and with authoritarians of every stripe and degree. Yet there is very little these various anti-democratic forms and forces have in common with each other. Their doctrines and policies often clash - they often go to war with one another. But there is one thing in common they all shared and still share - a hatred for the principle of equality, the democratic principle. This opposition is more than just theoretical. It always involves strong concerted action to hold back the advancement of the principle, and stamp it out whenever and wherever it crops up. Counterrevolutionary doctrines and dogmas always reject the Jeffersonian-Lincolnian view of the development of human history. Soviet communism collapsed, for example, not so much because of the many reasons put forward, but primarily because Marxism-Leninism failed to recognize the true direction in which the human race was moving. For them the ultimate phase of history was to be the period in human history when "scientific socialism" as they called it, would predominate in every country. The true and actual development of human history was there for them to see, just as it is there for all of us to see, but false teachers beclouded their minds and led them astray. This is generally the case with all counterrevolutionaries and with all the various forms of counterrevolution. A true authentic counterrevolutionary is almost always a person that does not believe in God. There are exceptions; nevertheless, an awareness of God's hands-on approach to the development of human history is totally absent in counterrevolutionary movements. It does more than make them uneasy when the principle of equal rights begins to gain ground in countries they control. It causes outright panic among them. As it moves forward, it undermines all the authoritarian structures they have labored for years to construct, it promises to remove them from power, and it will destroy and supplant totally the society they have created. They know how powerful it is. If you look at the military strength of democratists in the world as compared with that of the anti-democratists, and if you look at the policies and diplomatic maneuvering of democratists and anti-democratists, you are looking only at a portion of the struggle. It is necessary to understand that while all of these matters are of great importance, the fact remains - this is a war of principle and it always has been. And since God is the direct and sole author of the precise principle being fought over, it is necessary to understand that He is now and always has been front and center in our struggle to move His principle forward. Those who believe in the Almighty generally agree that He has a plan for the human race. Is the democratic world movement part of that plan? Very much so. - End - Further Reading: God's Plan for the Human Race A Spiritual View of History Democracy: Its Origin and Purpose |
